How Philips Zoom Works

In office Philips Zoom whitening process provides the maximum whitening benefits in the least amount of time, all under the supervision of your Dental Professional. Our revolutionary gel formulation is placed in custom trays with the precise dosage of whitening material. Our unique blue LED light activates the gel providing powerful whitening with cellular stimulation. Hydroxyl radicals penetrate the tooth enamel to break down stains into progressively smaller particles. This process will penetrate but not harm or damage the tooth enamel, including crowns and veneers.

How is Philips Zoom different?

Over-the-counter whitening products are not customized to you. With Phillips Zoom, the whitening process is tailored to your needs by your dentist; with custom-fitted trays for take-home treatments and just the right light intensity and duration in the dentist office.

How long will my Philips Zoom results last?

Whitening treatments help to reduce existing stains, but through consumption of coffee, soft drinks or just through natural aging, your teeth may eventually become discolored again. There is no totally reliable way to predict how light your teeth will whiten, so due to this, RESULTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED. Generally 7-10 days of wearing the trays daily (after you’re whitening procedure) for 1-2 hours will give you a much lighter result. However, we do not recommend home whitening for any longer than 2 weeks.

Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Clinical Studies have shown that whitening our teeth with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums. In fact, it is the safest whitening procedure that will be supervised under your Dental Professional as they we will apply a liquid rubber dam that will protect your gums from any kind of chemical burn.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effect is tooth and gum sensitivity.  It is normal to experience sensitivity with the whitening process; you can help to minimize this with the regular use of Sensodyne or Fluoridex toothpaste throughout the whitening process as well as after. Philips Zoom take-home whitening products have two mild desensitizing agents, potassium nitrate and amorphous calcium phosphate, to help minimize tooth sensitivity. However discomfort can range lasting up to several hours. We usually dispense our patients with ibuprofen before the procedure begins to help with discomfort.

Are you a candidate for whitening?

Just about everyone is a candidate for whitening. However, patients with dark yellow or yellow brown teeth tend to have a more dramatic result than patients with gray, bluish-gray or translucent teeth. Multi-coloured teeth, especially if stained due to tetracycline, do not whiten very well. In addition, teeth with anterior fillings may need to be replaced so that they will match your newly whitened teeth.

We do not recommend Zoom whitening for women who are pregnant or lactating, or patients that are immune compromised or being treated for a serious illness or disorder.

Pre-Procedure Instructions:

Step 1: Schedule a 20 minute appointment 1 week prior to your Zoom appointment for impressions for custom whitening tray impressions. (We will need enough time to make the trays prior to your appointment)

Step 2: We recommend patients to use Fluoridex Sensitivity Relief tooth paste to use 2x/day for two weeks prior.

Step 3: Schedule your in office ZOOM whitening appointment; we will need approximately 2 hours of your time so please provide yourself enough time for parking.

Step 4: We recommend avoiding citrus fruits and juices, as well as spicy foods prior to your procedure and to take 2 Ibuprofen ½ hour before appointment to relieve any discomfort from the sensitivity due to the zoom. When you arrive we will let you sit in your custom trays with relief gel for 20 minutes while you read and sign our consent form. There will be four 15 minutes sessions. We recommend completing all four sessions, but if you are experiencing too much sensitivity we can always stop when necessary.

Step 5: Custom tray, take home kit with instructions, and relief gel for you to apply for a ½ hour after the procedure will be sent home with you. Please attempt to eliminate consumption of food and drinks with dark pigmentation (coffee, red wine, berries, and mustard) as well as the use of tobacco. During the whitening process your teeth will be more porous and thus more susceptible to staining.
